After its closure, most of the buildings belonging to the paper mill were sold to private citizens and to the City Council for housing several companies and services.
The main building was kept closed until 1989, when the Geological and Miner Institute, which belonged to Industry and Energy Ministry decided to house there the public Litotec, the nathional lithographic collection.
As well national as foreign technicians developing research projets in public works and for mining companies visit this place to consult the collections of rocks and subsoil documents of a large part of Spain.
The chimney next to the paper mill stayed in a courtyard which was sold to a transport company.
After decades of abandonment, in 2012 the chimney of the paper mill together with the other chimneys of the industrial complex of Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo belched forth coloured smoke to urge for their repair. In 2018 the chimney was transferred to the local authorities for its restoration and illumination. This will happen thanks to the financial donations of neighbours and companies of Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo. This marks a milestone in social participation and for the nationwide appreciation of Industrial Heritage.
