The Museum of Contemporary Arts (MAC's) has been located at the Grand-Hornu since 2002. It is one of the flagship cultural projects of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. This space devoted to contemporary creation and designed by Pierre Hebbelinck, one of the main actors of architectural renewal in Wallonia is a continuation of the conversion of the site initiated in the late 80s.
Its ambitious vocation is to sensitize the greatest possible audience to contemporary arts.
Since its creation in September 2002 the MAC's has benefited from the support of the Province of Hainaut, owner of the historic site, the Walloon Region, the French Community, as well as the European Union. Its location in the centre of a motorway network linking France to the Netherlands and Germany makes it a highly accessible cultural relay.
Three priority axes determine the cultural mission of the MAC's: the constitution of a collection, the programming of exhibitions and the implementation of cultural activities.
As its name underlines, the Museum is open to the plurality of genres and disciplines, the Museum of Contemporary Arts focuses its attention as much on the traditional forms of artistic practice (painting, sculpture ...) as on its modern (photography, installation ... ) or contemporary (videos, multimedia ...) avatars.
