Haus der Seidenkultur is an industrial monument now run as a museum in Krefeld. From 1908 to 1992 liturgical fabrics were woven from Italian and Chinese silk thread for the Catholic Church in the former Hubert Gotzes parament weaving factory.
Heart of the museum is the preserved weaving hall at the authentic site, unique in Europe, housing eight wooden Jacquard hand-looms from the 19th century. Here long-established textile craftsmanship is still demonstrated.
Numerous activities are held at the museum making it a living experience where visitors are invited to discover silk and Krefeld’s textile history.
