Early 2015, the Cultural Department of Bilzen launched the participatory cultural project 'Art in the village'. The target? To realize more art together with committed citizens  in the local street scene. For Kleine-Spouwen the choice fell on a very special location, especially on top of the old chimney of Vandersanden Steenfabrieken. The company decided some time ago to restore and keep the old chimney, which is no longer in use. It is an important landmark in the villagescape of Kleine-Spouwen and the surrounding area.

That location was obvious, because the inhabitants of Kleine-Spouwen chose 'fire' as a theme for their artwork. Literally this refers to the fire that is used to produce bricks. Vandersanden's brick factory is also an important employer in the village and, just like its inhabitants, has started small and modest to become very large. But there is also fire in the enthusiastic inhabitants of Kleine-Spouwen, which creates togetherness and dynamism. The village has a vibrant social life. The fire and the passion ensure that great things can be achieved in the 'small' hamlet of Kleine-Spouwen.

In addition to the theme, the inhabitants of Kleine-Spouwen were also looking for an artist for their work. That honor was granted to Hugo Duchateau. Metal shaping and construction company Vandinter from Maaseik took care of the realization, in collaboration with Jacometal from Riemst. Chimney building and restoration company  Frans Eyckmans & sons from Westerlo placed the art work on top of the old chimney.
On June 6th 2018 there was a great inauguration party
